The Boulder, Colorado Mariott

Boulder Mariott
Lawrence sometimes compares itself to Boulder, Colorado for small town quality of life. Testimony to the City Commission has suggested that exceptional towns like Boulder wisely regulate their historic resources, which multiplies the value of investments.

The image above show a 3D model of the Boulder Mariott downloaded from Google. Something about this looks a great deal like the 900 NH proposal.  Not only that, but the lead architect lives in Denver. He comes to Lawrence periodically to make PowerPoint presentations. For reasons we cannot determine, no text is submitted to record what has been said. But it's been said again and again that 900 NH is a unique design taking into account Historic Resource Commission and neighborhood concerns. And it's been said again and again that Mariott cannot possibly support a smaller building.

Height and width dimensions from
Boulder Mariottl are actually smaller than
900 NH plan.  Click for a lager image
Elevation shows the Boulder Mariott is longer.
But wait until you see where it's located.

Image of Boulder Mariott location from Google Earth

Thanks to Google Earth, we can see where Boulder allowed its Mariott to be built.  Note the parking lots and blacktop all around.  If Mariott backs developers to build their hotel outside the historic district of Boulder, why can't they do the same in Lawrence?

See the next photo if you've not been to Boulder lately.  There's a reason the downtown is healthy.
